Bat Boy sells share in Weekly World News, tabloid crumbles
I’ve been a little late getting to my Time magazines recently, but yesterday I read Joel Stein’s article from a couple of weeks ago about Weekly World News’ last issue, and it really touched me. Just like everyone else, since I was a little kid I would look at the monstrosities that were spread across its covers and others while I waited in line at my local grocery store. I’m a little sad to find out that the most outlandish of these tabloids has now officially run its course.
Stein’s article gave some insight into the tabloid and some of its inner workings. After knowing a little more about it, it makes it even harder to to find out it’s gone.
While his article was great, don’t pay too much attention to Stein saying it’s a good thing that the tabloid is gone. While these publications laugh at questions of credibility and spit in the face of true journalism, we’ll always need people to poke at least a little fun at our industry’s seriousness. The tabloid itself kept a good sense of humor until the very end telling its readers to buy the last issue now because it would soon be selling for much more on eBay.
